Active safety

Active safety systems are generally defined as systems whose intent is to assist the driver in reducing the risk for an accident, as opposed to Passive safety systems whose main goal is to mitigate injuries to vehicle occupants during and after an accident.

There is a trend in the industry that indicates that the development of Active safety systems accelerates as the potential for Passive safety systems flattens out.

Mecel has been working with radar based active safety systems, such as Adaptive Cruise Control, ACC, since 1994. Currently Mecel is involved in two active safety production programs. Mecel is also a partner in the SEFS sensor fusion research project within the Swedish national Intelligent Vehicle Safety Systems, IVSS program.

The expertise in systems and safety engineering combined with the knowledge and experience in the development of active safety systems has enabled Mecel to build a strong knowledge platform for development of future active safety systems.
