AUTOSAR

AUTOSAR - (Automotive Open System Archictecture) an international development partnership with the goal of establishing a common software infrastructure standard for vehicle electronics.

The objective is to improve vehicle electronic systems development in terms of

  • Manage the increasing complexity associated with functional growth
  • Improve flexibility and product modification, upgrade and update
  • Improve scalability of solutions within and across product lines
  • Improve quality and reliability of electronic systems
The following have been accomplished
  • Standard specification of automotive software architecture
  • Standard data descriptions for each automotive product domain
  • Standard specification of "Basic Software Modules"
  • Process definition and Software Tools to apply the architecture

This results in the standardization of basic system functions and functional interfaces, and gives the ability to integrate and transfer functions and to substantially improve software updates and upgrades over the vehicle lifetime.

The AUTOSAR scope includes all vehicle domains, i.e. all vehicle control applications are addressed, particularly with respect to distributed functions where communication systems based on CAN, LIN and Flexray are used.

AUTOSAR was founded in 2003 by major OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers and includes a large number of automotive, electronics, semiconductor, hard- and software companies.

Mecel has been involved in several working groups, preparing and reviewing specifications, including in-vehicle communication, diagnostics and safety related work packages. Mecel has participated in both the Validator 1 and 2 projects as an implementor. The purpose of the Validator project was to verify and validate the correctness of the specifications.

Mecel Picea Suite is our AUTOSAR compliant software product. More information about Mecel Picea Suite can be found here.
